As I have become interested in Astrophotography, it wasn't long until I realized what an advantage a permanent setup would be. It only takes a couple of times of hauling out a couple hundred pounds of gear (12" scope, tripod, cameras, laptop, table, etc) before that thought crosses your mind.
I eventually bought some land not too far from the DFW area where I could setup a permanent observatory. Its location was a trade-off between dark skies and travel distance. Overall, I have been pleased with the location.
With a lot of help from my Dad and several friends, I was able to complete construction in about a year. Which was quite an accomplishment considering I don't think any of us really knew what we were doing. Below is a photo record of our saga.
Phase 1: Breaking ground and initial construction...
Phase 2: Closing it in, and rolling roof construction...
Phase 3: Mostly Complete. Putting on finishing touches...
